Too Timid to Play God
This above is Cuban tree frog photographed at night in our backyard goldfish pond. As cute as she (?) is, it’s an invasive species that eats anything it can get in its mouth, including Florida’s native tree frogs. Should I have hit it with a shotgun blast? But that might have been construed as “playing god.” (Seeing I’m too old to “play doctor,” playing god may be the only serious fun I can have.) How fine of a line is there between exercising dominion over the earth and stepping on the Big Guy’s toes?
Though I have no belief in a Big Guy — thus cannot step on his toes — I do wonder about human influence on the course of evolution.
