The Most Alpha of Alphas
With size comes power. Although this is true for ocean waves, I am here referring to animals. With animal size comes greater mass, muscles, inertia, reach, leverage. As a rule, individuals are intimidated by beings larger than themselves. The cliché sitcom episode will show a new boyfriend traveling to confront an old boyfriend, only to discover he is 6 foot 6. “Oops, wrong address.” When one individual wants to dominate another, he or she will stand tall. To submit the movement is in the opposite direction.
In the coming posts I will be looking at how primates, including humans, use size in their recognition and pursuit of status. I will also detail how the Bible and its alpha express the theme of size and its implication of power relative to status/hierarchy.
