Dig It and They Will Come

Our backyard pond has been the home to goldfish for over ten years now. Two or three of the orange fish are originals. The rest are more recent additions. As for frogs, they have come and gone over the years. I don’t introduce them, and yet they come. The massive bullfrog we had out there for 3 years is gone. I wonder where it went. Earlier this year I was pleased to spot a leopard frog out there. Where did he/she come from? The closest natural body of water is hundreds and hundreds of yards away. A distance riddled with potential hazards.

Over the weekend I spotted a second leopard frog in the pond. Actually on it: suspended atop a lily pad. The following morning we had frog eggs floating among the vegetation. While I’m sure the goldfish will eat most of them, I hope one or two survive to adulthood.

Wonderful. Nature is so cool.
