One of the benefits of living in Florida is the opportunity to view shuttle launches. I have seen a number and each left me feeling awe and wonder. Peak experiences.

The above photo [thanks to NASA] is of the Space Shuttle Discovery launch this past month August. The scene looks both light and dark. Is it daylight or night-time?

The pic was actually taken at midnight. It looks somewhat daylight-ish — no stars, the underside of clouds lit up — because the burning of the fuel created so much light it illuminated the atmosphere and clouds like the reflected light from the sun normally does.

This universe: so strangely beautiful.
