Finalizing your resume is a bit of a process, and, as such, it’s a huge relief when you’re done. However, if you are being meticulous (which you definitely should be) it can take so much longer than you thought possible, what with all the formatting, detail-gathering, and, of course, job-specific tailoring. Before you start writing your resume, choose a type of resume that highlights your strengths and achievements, review what information to include in your resume and examples of each part of a resume, and then select a typical resume format. While all resumes should provide information on your work and education experience, as well as your skills and accomplishments, there are different ways to present this information. For instance, if you have a significant employment gap since your last position, you may want to use a functional resume rather than a chronological one.
This is the most argued point of resume writing. Some professionals vigorously discourage applicants from going over one page, while others argue that in some instances it is acceptable. The bottom line is this: if you have information that is highly relevant to the position you are applying for then go ahead and add an extra page. However, if you are just adding fluff for the sake of adding pages, then your resume will suffer.
